The décolletage is the name used to refer to the upper part of the body – predominantly the shoulders, neck and chest. When we reference an ageing décolletage and neck, this is typically the visible area of skin that is exposed above the neckline of your clothing.

The skin in this area is thinner than that of the arms, legs or torso, and has less oil producing glands. When these natural traits are couple with this being more exposed to the sun than other parts of the body, it can mean that the neck and décolletage are more vulnerable to the effects of ageing given the consideration of environmental factors that cause acceleration of the ageing process. This part of the body also has less fatty tissue, and so the skin may have a tendency to lack elasticity and as a result, is more likely to develop creases, or a ‘crepey’ texture.

We all think about how wrinkles, dry skin, loss of volume and elasticity and pigmentation issues can affect the face, but don’t often consider early enough, how these signs of ageing may impact the the neck and decolletage. The head and jawline is well supported by the muscles within the neck which acts as a scaffolding, but they are not connected to the bone structure. This means that the chest area is more likely to succumb to gravitational pull, and with loss of elasticity and skin movement, as well as the weight of breast tissue, this can cause changes to the structure of the skin, over time.

Neck bands, which run horizontally across the neck, and vertical wrinkles on the chest invariably become deeper set as we mature and the skin can begin to loosen and sag.

At Nassif MedSpa, we have a number of treatments to help soften the signs of ageing, such as: Skin boosters, Dermal fillers and chemical peels, as well as advanced skin care and facials.

FAQs

The skin on the neck and chest is thinner and has fewer oil glands than the face, yet receives just as much sun exposure and far less care. Lines, crepiness, pigmentation and laxity often show here first.

Our Neck Rejuvenation treatment, Sciton SkinTyte tightening, skin boosters such as Profhilo, collagen stimulators such as Juläine and BBL for pigmentation can be combined into a personalised plan for the neck and décolletage.

Skin quality and firmness improve progressively over two to three months as collagen rebuilds, with long-lasting results when maintained.
