This common concern sees the body excessively sweating in areas where there is a high concentration of sweat glands, including: the hands, feet, armpits and the groin. By applying botulinum toxin directly into the affected area, signals from the nerves to the glands are blocked, preventing sweat from being secreted. The results can leave you with soft skin and dry areas, regardless of heat or situation.

Excessive sweating can be an embarrassing condition that is often more prevalent when the body’s temperature rises; during the Summer and warmer months, or during periods of activity and exercise. To perform the treatment a grid will be placed over the affected area, marking out the places where injections will need to be administered. Each square within the grid measures around 1cm, with a small amount of diluted toxin injected into each square to reach the eccrine glands – which are responsible for producing sweat.

The treatment uses a very fine needle and is usually quick and very well tolerated. For your comfort, a numbing cream can be applied prior to the treatment.

The desired results from anti-sweating injections may take up to 2 weeks to fully develop, leaving you free from embarrassing damp patches for up to 12 months.

This is a licensed product that is increasingly being used to treat a number of medical and aesthetic concerns. To ensure the procedure is carried out safely and effectively, you should only undergo the treatment when it is being administered by a trained and experienced injector.

This treatment is generally tolerated well by many patients. If you feel your own level of tolerance is lower than you would like, you have the option of having a topical numbing cream applied 20 – 30 minutes before the procedure is carried out.

In most cases, a patient will experience redness, swelling and bruising at the treatment site, following the procedure. These temporary effects have often settled within 24 hours, along with any sensitivity and tenderness. As with any procedure, there is always some degree of associated risk, all of which will be explained to you at your pre-treatment consultation.

In general, an injectable treatment for botulinum toxin does not often incur any significant amount of downtime. You may feel tender for a short while, but this should not stop you from carrying out your usual daily tasks.
