Your own platelets, put to work on thinning hair.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is one of our most sought-after treatments for hair loss and hair thinning. It uses the natural healing properties of your own blood to stimulate the scalp and support new hair growth, for both men and women.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

PRP is derived from your own blood through a simple and safe process. A small sample is drawn and then processed to concentrate the platelets and growth factors, which are then reintroduced where they are needed to rejuvenate and revitalise the skin, hair and other areas of concern.

A brief history of PRP

Initially developed in the 1970s, PRP therapy has gained significant recognition in recent years for its regenerative capabilities. Originally used in orthopaedics and sports medicine to promote tissue healing and repair, PRP soon found its way into medical aesthetics because of its results in rejuvenating the skin and promoting hair growth.

PRP in medical aesthetics

At Nassif MedSpa, PRP is a powerful tool for addressing a range of concerns related to ageing, hair loss, scarring and hormonal changes. With its ability to stimulate collagen production, increase blood flow and accelerate tissue repair, PRP offers a natural and effective approach to promoting hair growth and achieving healthier, more radiant skin.

Benefits of PRP hair loss treatment

Hair thinning and hair loss: for those experiencing hair thinning, androgenic alopecia or hereditary hair loss, PRP injected into the scalp stimulates dormant hair follicles, promoting new growth and restoring fullness to thinning areas.

Peri-menopause and menopause hair loss: many women experience hair loss or thinning during peri-menopause and menopause due to hormonal changes. PRP can help by rejuvenating the hair follicles, promoting growth and improving the overall quality and thickness of the hair.

Anti-ageing: PRP can also be used on the face, where it stimulates collagen production and improves skin elasticity for smoother, firmer skin.

Scar treatment: the growth factors in PRP encourage tissue regeneration and remodelling, helping to reduce the visibility of acne, surgical and other scars.

Treatment sessions and procedure

The number of PRP sessions required varies depending on the concern being addressed. In general, a series of treatments spaced a few weeks apart is recommended for the best results. During each session a small amount of blood is drawn from your arm, similar to a routine blood test. The blood is processed in a centrifuge to isolate and concentrate the platelets and growth factors, and the PRP is then carefully injected into the scalp using fine needles or a microneedling technique.

Duration and recovery

One of the many advantages of PRP is its minimal downtime. Following treatment you may experience mild redness or swelling at the injection sites, which typically subsides within a day or two. You can resume normal activities immediately after the procedure.

Longevity of results

The duration of PRP results varies with individual factors and the concern being treated. Generally the benefits are long-lasting, with results typically visible within a few weeks to months after treatment. To maintain and optimise your results, we recommend periodic maintenance treatments as advised by our medical team.

FAQs

PRP for hair loss is best suited to thinning hair and early to moderate hair loss, where the follicles are still active and can be stimulated. It is less effective on areas that have been completely bald for a long time. Suitability is assessed at your consultation.

PRP uses your own blood, processed to concentrate the platelets, so there is no risk of an allergic reaction to the product itself. Treatment is carried out by our trained practitioners under sterile conditions following a full medical consultation.

A small blood sample is taken from your arm, then the PRP is injected into the scalp using fine needles. Topical numbing can be applied, and most patients describe mild discomfort rather than pain.

Mild tenderness, redness or swelling of the scalp for a day or two, and occasional small bruises at the injection sites. Because PRP comes from your own body, serious side effects are rare.

A series of three to four sessions spaced a few weeks apart is usually recommended. Visible results typically take around 12 weeks to develop, although this varies from person to person, and periodic maintenance treatments help to keep them.

None to speak of. You can return to your day straight away. We will give you aftercare guidance, which typically includes avoiding hair washing, strenuous exercise and heat for 24 hours.
