Improve the appearance of stretch marks and skin texture.

Stretch marks are a common skin concern that can develop when the skin is stretched or changes more rapidly than the underlying tissues can adapt. They can appear as lines or bands across areas of the body, including the abdomen, hips, thighs, breasts, buttocks and upper arms. Their appearance can vary from pink, red or purple marks when they first develop to paler, white or silvery lines over time.

Stretch marks can develop during periods of rapid growth, pregnancy, significant changes in weight or muscle mass, and other times when the skin is placed under increased tension. Hormonal changes can also influence the skin’s structure and its ability to produce collagen and elastin, making some people more prone to developing them.

The skin is made up of several layers, with collagen and elastin providing strength, structure and elasticity. When the skin stretches quickly, these structural fibres can become damaged within the deeper layers of the skin. This can result in the visible lines and changes in texture associated with stretch marks.

It is normal for stretch marks to change in appearance over time. Newer stretch marks may appear red, pink or purple and can sometimes feel slightly raised or different in texture. As they mature, they often become lighter and less noticeable, although the change in texture can remain. Genetics, skin type, hormones and the degree of stretching can all influence how stretch marks develop and how visible they become.

Stretch marks can affect different areas of the body and may develop as a result of pregnancy, puberty, changes in weight or periods of rapid physical development. Although they are completely normal and very common, many people choose to explore treatment to improve their appearance, particularly when the marks are more visible or have created an uneven texture.

At Nassif MedSpa, advanced skin treatments can be used to improve the appearance of stretch marks by encouraging collagen production and skin remodelling. Depending on the age, colour, texture and location of the stretch marks, treatments such as BBL, HALO and ProFractional may be considered as part of a personalised treatment plan. These technologies work at different depths within the skin to target pigmentation, improve texture and stimulate new collagen, helping the treated area appear smoother and more even over time.

FAQs

Stretch marks form when the skin stretches faster than it can adapt, during pregnancy, growth spurts or weight change, breaking the collagen and elastin fibres beneath the surface. Fresh marks appear red or purple and fade to silvery white over time.

Laser resurfacing treatments such as Sciton ProFractional and HALO, together with SkinPen microneedling, stimulate new collagen within the marks to soften, smooth and blend them with the surrounding skin.

Stretch marks can be significantly improved but not completely removed, and newer marks tend to respond best. A course of treatments is usually needed, with results developing over several months.
