Laser hair removal is a well-established treatment that has been refined over decades. We use the Cynosure Elite+, a medical-grade laser suitable for a wide range of skin tones and hair types. Your consultation covers the right settings for you, the expected outcome and any associated risks.

Most patients describe a warm, snapping sensation rather than pain. Treatment is generally well tolerated, and the Cynosure Elite system is designed for a more comfortable experience.

The skin can appear slightly red after treatments and the hair follicles which have been treated may appear raised and bumpy for up to 48 hours. Itching can occur in some individuals, several days after treatment which tends to be mild and will subside. Other side effects are rare and will be explained during your pre-treatment consultation.

Laser hair removal significantly and permanently reduces hair growth over a full course of treatment, though some patients choose occasional top-up sessions to maintain results long-term.

Most patients need a course of 6–8 sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, to achieve longer-lasting hair reduction, followed by occasional maintenance sessions.

Although a few minor side effects may occur following the procedure, there is very little downtime attached to the laser hair removal treatment. When you leave the clinic you should be able to continue with your day as you normally would, only feeling some very slight sensitivity of the skin.

Laser hair removal is a cosmetic treatment, so it isn't routinely available on the NHS or covered by private medical insurance. If excess hair is linked to a medical condition such as PCOS, it's worth talking to your GP.

Shaving and waxing never end: shaving needs doing every few days, waxing every few weeks, and both can cause rash, irritation and ingrown hairs. Laser costs more upfront, but sessions get further apart as hair growth slows, and many people find fewer ingrown hairs and less shadowing in areas like the underarms. The trade-offs: you'll need to shave rather than wax during your course, avoid tanning, and wait 4 to 6 weeks between sessions.

Autumn and winter are ideal, because there's less sun and it's easier to avoid tanning. You can start at any time of year with good sun protection.
