Surgery is a significant investment, both financially and emotionally. Once the procedure is over, the focus naturally shifts to recovery: managing swelling and bruising, allowing the tissues to heal and, eventually, seeing the results develop.
At Nassif Medical Spa in MediaCity, Manchester, our pre and post surgery service combines medical oversight with specialised treatments designed to support patients before and after their procedure.
Our team understands that postoperative care is not simply about appearance. The body needs time to heal, and treatments need to be introduced at the right stage of recovery. We therefore work around your surgical team's instructions and, where appropriate, incorporate treatments such as lymphatic drainage massage, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and laser scar treatment into your recovery plan.
Having the right support after surgery can be particularly important when you are recovering from a more involved procedure.
Our approach considers the medical and aesthetic aspects of recovery, including the condition of the tissues, swelling, bruising, wound and scar healing and how the treated area is progressing.
Your surgical team remains responsible for your surgical care and postoperative medical instructions. Our role is to provide additional support around that care, with treatments introduced when they are appropriate for your recovery.
This may include assessing your skin and tissues before treatment, monitoring how they are responding and adapting your treatment plan as you progress.
Preoperative care can help you prepare for the recovery period ahead and plan the support you may need following your procedure.
Depending on your surgery, this may include:
If you already have a surgery date, contacting us beforehand allows us to understand what procedure you are having and coordinate your care around it.
The early weeks following surgery can bring swelling, bruising, fluid retention and a feeling of tightness in the treated areas. These are common parts of healing, but they can also make recovery uncomfortable and leave you feeling impatient to see your final result.
Postoperative care needs to take into account what has actually been done during surgery and how your body is healing. The treatments we offer are therefore introduced at different stages rather than following a standard timetable.
Lymphatic drainage is a gentle massage technique used to encourage the movement of lymphatic fluid. Following surgery, it may be incorporated into a recovery plan where swelling and fluid retention are concerns.
The technique is deliberately gentle and is not the same as a traditional deep tissue massage. Timing is particularly important after surgery, so treatment will only be recommended when it is appropriate for your procedure and recovery.
Our hyperbaric oxygen chamber provides oxygen at increased pressure, allowing you to breathe a higher concentration of oxygen during the session.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has established medical uses, including certain situations involving compromised tissue and wound healing. Where appropriate, it may be considered as an additional treatment alongside the care provided by your surgical team.
Whether it is suitable for you will depend on your procedure, recovery and individual circumstances.
A surgical scar does not necessarily finish changing when the incision has closed. As it matures, it can remain red or darker than the surrounding skin, become raised or firm, or develop an uneven or altered texture.
Once the scar and surrounding skin have healed sufficiently, laser scar treatment may be considered.
Fractional laser treatments, such as Sciton ProFractional, can be used to target changes in scar texture and appearance, helping to remodel the scar over time. The treatment used and when it can begin will depend on the type of scar and how it has healed.
This can be particularly relevant for patients who are happy with their surgical result but remain concerned about the appearance of the incision itself.
Postoperative care is not necessarily about having the same treatment from beginning to end.
Early recovery may focus on swelling, bruising and fluid retention. Once the tissues have settled and the incision has healed, attention may shift towards the appearance of the scar, skin texture and any remaining changes in the treated area.
Your treatment plan can therefore be reviewed as you recover, with different treatments introduced when they are clinically appropriate.
If you know your surgery date, we recommend contacting us as early as possible. This gives our team time to understand the procedure you are having, discuss your recovery and plan any pre and postoperative treatments around it.
Following surgery, your surgeon's instructions always take priority. We will work within the guidance provided by your surgical team and will not introduce treatments until they are considered appropriate for your stage of recovery.
At Nassif Medical Spa, we combine our medical expertise with advanced aesthetic treatments to support patients around their surgery.
Whether your main concern is postoperative swelling, fluid retention, tissue recovery or the appearance of a surgical scar, we can assess where you are in your recovery and discuss the treatments that may be appropriate.
